Stupid Ocean

Or just one.
Boy.
In the singular form.

I finally got to talk to La Rockstar today. Time differences and his lack of phone (death by drowning) has prevented us from our weekly updates recently. But boy did my day turn into a 10 ONE THOUSAND after our chat.

Now if he could cheer me up after every glue infested day at school. That would be fantastic.

Stupid ocean.

Queen of Babble

One of the biggest flaws I find in myself is that Im not a big reader. I am a writer, a painter, a teacher, a runner, a traveler, a t.v. watcher and a procrastinator, but I regretfully can not claim myself as a reader.

Knowing my flaw, hating it and trying to change it I set myself up for failure by turning my desire to read more into a New Years resolution. Those fail 110% of the time.

My New Years Resolution was to read one book a month. Shamefully I admit, I just finished the book I started in January. It was forced on me by a fellow co worker. Begrudgingly, I decided to try it out.

Queen of Babble by Meg Cabot.

It doesn't really sound like my kind of book. I mean it has pink on the cover. I don't do pink and girly. A short time in to the book I could tell why my co-worker was so adamant on me reading this book.

The main character IS ME! Totally awkward, talks too much (out of nervousness), obsessed with England and goes to visit her la rockstar...british boyfriend for the summer.

After reading that one, I picked up the uber interesting Girl with a One Track Mind by Abby Lee while in London.
Warning: Its graphic. BUT about an anonymous blogger who got a book deal in response to her thousands of followers.  I couldn't put it down. So yes, I read 2 books in one month. I feel slightly accomplished even though I should have read 7 by now.

P.S. my neck/back is KILLING me from my T-rex attack yesterday morning. Where is my significant other when I need him? oh wait...I haven't met him yet. Hurry up kid!

"Responsible"

I hate being responsible sometimes. Most of the time I'm not. My horrid memory and immaturity make it impossible for me to exhibit such qualities. But there are a few instances when my responsibility dominates my decisions. It comes in out of no where. no warning. no invitation. Like my decision  NOT to go to France with la rockstar and his band. What was I thinking? Was this a responsible choice, la beast? NO just a plain stupid one!
A week on the beach. Play all day, rock out all night. Who wouldn't want to be a groupie for a week? Those of you who answered "not me" are clearly the responsible ones.
So now I'm here in Texas (not France), with the rain, and all the bugs that found a new home in my home while I was gone, scrubbing the bathroom and getting texts from la rockstar like "im laying on the beach, wish you were here"

.............

alright la rockstar. hold on just a minute while I...double over in pain from the electronic stab you just sent me! stupid text. a nice text, but an annoyingly painful one.

Today I sit reflecting on the word "responsible". Was it responsible for me to get on that plane back to the states? Due to money, time, safety,...blah blah blah. Or would it also have been a responsible decision to get on a plane from England to France? To experience life, other cultures...you know worldly things?

You don't have to say. I already know.

IM BAAAAACK! psych!

Hello Lovelies. I'm back state side!
Im not too thrilled to be back considering I was darting around the little island I love most, living the dream for 2 weeks. As they say money doesnt grow on trees so I'm back until I can afford my next trip across the pond.
What an expensive hobby I have.
:)

I thought i'd humor you with a little Q &A of the frequently asked questions upon my arrival.

What was your favorite part of the trip?
Its hard for me to pick just one because I felt like I was living a dream the entire time. Everything was fascinating. Everything was beautiful, the weather was perfect and I was surrounded by British accents. It was Christmas morning for 14 days.  But if I had to choose it would be meeting up with my students, hands down. Getting to squeeze their little cheeks again and hug their faces just made my day entire year. They are so energizing and are a refreshing reminder of why I do what I do.

What was your least favorite part of the trip?
Coordinating everything. I am so laid back and not into plans so when it came to deciding where to eat lunch it was a 10 minute ordeal.

and the BIG question

how was....la rockstar?
Well lets talk about that one. La rockstar....is busy being a rockstar. and when i say busy i mean...too busy. (he already gave me permission to publicly out him for his stupidity) But he has good reason so I forgave him and so should you! He's also just as sad about it as you are and begged for forgiveness and promised to make it up next time.

I was home 36 hours before I was back in the airport. Im addicted to them I think. A heathly addiction but an costly one. Now I'm in Illinois with the fam.

Today my cousin and I took the converti to Tanner Orchard, a haven for everything apple. The apple donuts are scrumptious and the apple cider was delicious.

But the best trick of the trade was the APPLE CIDER SLUSHIE!
Ummmm, Yes please!
We are just having so much fun with uninterrupted girl time. My cousin is one of my favorite people on this planet and I never get to see her! Stupid husbands getting in the way (not mine, but hers) . Just kidding her and her husband are adorable check out their blog.

I hope your summer is filled with fun adventures.
Until next time (or until I get my England pictures uploaded)

British Rockstars

Hopefully you are familiar with the Parisian Love- Google commercial that aired during the Super Bowl.
If you aren't watch it here.

I just made my own Search Story and it was probably the highlight of my week. Many of you know my British Rockstar band friends, Paper Planes, and if you don't, you need to go check them out because they are amazing.

When I first met the gentlemen of Paper Planes they were bolting around town pulling all kind of tricks under the name of Lecorum. A bass player change and 18 months later they are now known as Paper Planes.

Here is a little Search Story of Lecorum + la beast starting September 2008 and ending.........????

Now wasn't that just fantastic?

Ping!

La Rockstar found the best invention ever made.
Its called
Ping!
(Yes it includes the exclamation)
and it made our wildest dreams come true.

I remember back when I was a young little girl, I dreamt of one day when a little "hand top" (as opposed to laptop) phone would be invented. A hand top that could do all things under the sun with thousands of things called...applications. A hand top that could count my calories, play me music and get me lost while driving all in one expensive beast of a machine.  I only dreamt that there would be a free way to communicate with British rockstars on the other side of the pond. Specifically, one who tickles the ivories.

Well ladies and gents,

YOUR my dreams have come true. Free overseas texting via applications on the iphone is thrilling yet dangerous.

Huzzah.

Need to Ping! someone on the other side of the Atlantic?

Download your application from itunes today!

{Ping! I will accept my endorsement check at my paypal account}

IM FAMOUS

well...sorta. kinda. not really. not even close.
BUT we can pretend!

Most of you know of my unhealthy obsession with Paper Planes. Their new cd came out on itunes last week and I held a blog contest which was a success! Well, "la rockstar" informed me of a little shout out from their record company. They posted a link to my blog on their website here.

You can download the sweet jams from itunes here and then tell me how much you love them here. Feed these starving souls...or at least buy them some drinks.

Brilliant. Cheers boys :)

"England Shmingland"

I have had some heavy thoughts on my mind lately. Im not really a fan of publicly posting long, boring, pictureless posts of my deepest thoughts, but I DO enjoy writing and I haven't been doing enough of it. And since only 18 people admit to reading this rubbish of mine, I feel safe posting more rubbish :)

Im going through a pre-quarter life crisis. I moved to Austin February 14th, the day of love, to escape heartbreak from the "man" I loved to start a new life. This to many is no secret. I now love everything about Austin. I love the city, I love the lakes, I love the hills. I LOVE my job. Moving away from Dallas and College Station burying the last 7 years of memories, for me, was the best decision I ever made.

But thats not really the point of this post. I have no doubt in my mind that Austin is where I need to be right now. I have met fantastic people and work in a supportive school with loving and well-behaved (for the most part) students. I truly could not ask for anything better.  But is there something better?

Maybe its the fact that the one year mark since I left for England just recently passed that has it on the forefront of my mind. Or Maybe its the fact that I felt closer to God in England than I did the entire 4 years I was engulfed, saturated in a, what felt like, 40,000 member "Christianity Competition" during college at Texas A&M. Or maybe its the fact that I am intrigued by England's school system and see faults in the US school system daily. Or maybe its the facebook messages and emails that I STILL receive DAILY from my students in England.

Either way England has been heavily on my mind for months.  I loved being able to wear coats in England. I loved being able to take public transportation anywhere and everywhere. I loved being surrounded by culture and that other cultures were so close by. I loved that it is common to be bilingual. I loved that they have a NATIONAL FUNDRAISER with Pudsey Bear for Children in Need.  I love  that, as a whole, the British people seem to be more educated on world wide events and happenings.
Embarrassing confession: When I moved there I still thought the Prime Minister was Tony Blair. But thats more than some people!
I do LOVE USA...alot...alot, alot. I am PROUD to be an American, BUT I cant help myself but to dream of exploration beyond Texas, beyond America.

So this morning I woke up and made Twinings, my English Breakfast Tea, for the first time since I have been back. I poured in some milk and dazzled it with some sugar sipping it slowly to savor every sip. I even brought an extra tea bag to school for a second cup. I turned up James Morrison and happily danced around my empty classroom until the bell rang at 8:13.  And after an almost half hour chat, Damien, "La Rockstar", and all his English-ness (what are you? english? british? united kingdomian? half french?) also has me dreaming of  exploring England.

I have been praying about this and ask for your prayers as I continuously fight the battle of my goals and path versus the goals and path God has already decided on.

Hope this wasnt too mushy gushy for ya. Ill be back to posting meaningless, nonsense posts tomorrow. Just thought Id throw ya a curve ball

Until next time, Good Night
