Kayne and Blackie

I've posted before about the adorable, sweet, precious little Zambian child that I sponsor named Kayne.

I sent a beanie baby,a picture and a letter to him last spring with a friend Katy who was going to visit him and the others at Camp Life. 

I just received pictures of him in the mail today and LOOK

He's holding Blackie the beanie baby!

Taking control of my life....for 20 minutes

Yesterday I was fed up with the fact that I was at work (didn't leave my windowless classroom or school corridors) for a solid 12.5 hours. I left work pissed with a laundry list of things to do once I got home.
Yesterday.... I did none of them.

Im tired of wasting my days without any me time. Time alone to myself (sleeping doesn't count). Im tired of talking. Im tired of listening. Im tired that I don't have time to develop artistically. I'm just sick and tired of being sick and tired. Instead I decided to draw. I turned up some Aaron Ivey and started sketching hoping that I would be inspired for a new painting for the living room.  My delicate little fingers danced across the page producing this 20 minutes later. It was all I needed. I was soothed.

(No, there is no relation to Aaron Ivey's music and my drawing....other than they both could be classified as hipster)

What. What.

1 week from today my life will get a lot less complicated and busy and unbearable. Can't. Wait.

Meet Kayne (Kanye) Phiri

This is the 11 year old child I sponsor. I was asked to sponsor a child from Zambia over Christmastime and was a little hesitant. I haven't really involved myself in African missions as I see there is so much to be done in our own country as well. Not that I am against it, I have just been caught up serving elsewhere. I think I mentioned on my blog before about my passion to foster children or adopt an early teenager. It will happen. Some day. Some how. But for now I will continue to care for the 120 + children I can mentor daily in my own classroom. 


As hesitant as I was...I couldn't resist this precious face! Oh lil Kanye...

How could you not?


So now I give Kayne (kanye) a quality, bible-based education, nutritional assistance, clothing, and medicare. I just received pictures in the mail INCLUDING a wallet size so I can show off his pouty smile to everyone who will let me :)
