Crazy little thing called love

Geez Louise! All this talk about love has got me talking a lot... about... love. Fancy that.

(photos: wehearit)
Well not really love...but the Love Languages. Have you heard of them?

When considering any person you love (relationships, friends or family) you might want to play detective and figure out the best way to love them. But in order to do that, first you need to find out what YOUR love language is. Click here to take the test.

Someone fancy and important (a kid named Gary Chapman) thought real long and hard on this crazy little thing we call love and came up with his idea of everything. He says there are 5 different ways people show love, receive love and all around speak the language we call love. Lets get right to it.

1. Receiving gifts: These people feel most loved when receiving gifts. Don't dare miss their birthday.

2. Acts of service: This person would feel loved if I did the dishes. Sorry "La Roommate" I bet you felt unloved all year last year. I just hope and pray my future husband doesn't speak this love language.

3. Quality Time: It doesn't matter what, when or where as long as its with the other person. Quality time is a big one for most of my friends. They keep me on my toes and my schedule booked.

4. Physical Touch: Unexpected kisses? Who doesn't like that? ...but I could do without touching. My last bf complained of my lack of desire to cuddle, or hug, or hold hands. This was the language he spoke. My friends also complain that I'm horrible with physical touch. La Roomate and I have a deal.. When she's upset there will be no hugging or a pat on the back. In fact dont even expect me to get up off the couch, instead I'll just reach across the ottoman and give you a nice comforting toe tap.

5. Words of Affirmation: Actions don't speak louder than words. Compliments, praise, notes, (comments on their blog) phone calls just to say "I miss you" make this person go wild.

And this person would be ME. Telling me how you feel is FREE and it doesn't require much time. A simple text goes a long way. I don't need expensive gifts, or a huge amount of your week devoted to me. I don't need you to do laundry or do the dishes. I don't even need you to cuddle (maybe sometimes). Instead, an "I love you" in a text changes my day.  Bestie and Lindsey have figured this out and stay near and dear to my heart because of it. My mother called just to tell me how much she as looking forward to my visit last weekend and it changed my mood entirely.
I would LOVE to date another "words of affirmation" language speaker. We could send the daily texts and meet up once or twice a week to cuddle. Perfect.  He would understand my need for independence because he cant be in a smothering relationship either. GENIUS!

The reason its important to know your love language is because you usually speak your love language. I am constantly praising my students at school. I will go out of my way to praise a student for the smallest achievement in order to give them those words of affirmation. Your Birthday card might end up being 25 reasons why I love you. Your Christmas present will be nothing more than a poem.
But as much as Abra enjoys my "Abra I think you're the best" compliments that I pull on her she would like nothing more than for me to sit on the couch and watch "Sliding Doors" with her. (good movie btw)
My friend Lindsey is content sitting side by side on the couch, silently surfing the internet on our own computers. She also speaks Quality Time.

Marriages and relationships can fall apart with two people trying their absolute best to make things work. Why?
Because they are loving their partner according to their personal love language as opposed to loving their partner the language their partner speaks.

Im pretty much an expert now after this post. Ill be here all week.

This is my lover saying "Come on La beast lets go to England" and Im like "Ok yay! I love life!"

Goodnight.
Time for me to meet my man in my dreams.
Wait is that how it goes?
Crap.

Austin

This weekend I fell in love with my city.
Like really fell in love with it. I don't take advantage of it enough. There is so much to do, so many funky places to eat at and so many incredible views like this one!
This is a little spot I found along my usual running path. I love coming here at night and seeing the lights of the city reflect off the lake.
This weekend I went to Red Brick Pizza, a cozy little pizza bar, where I got pineapples on my pizza.
I went to Halcyon coffee house where they serve you SMORES at the table and then went out to west 6th street for a night on the town.

I planned my route 5 different times this weekend to drive up South Congress because Im obsessed with the view of The Capitol.

On my day off, I am going running at town lake (and right past this little spot) then I am taking Diana with me to south congress to have a little fun.

The most wonderful time of the year

Annually my girls from high school (the tiny dancers) get together for a gift exchange. It truly is the most wonderful time of the year. I love these beautiful ladies. Aren't they just stunning?

Katelyn and Sterlyn, we missed you!

Then we went to The Gingerman pub and Brother came!

Happy List

Lauren tagged me to do a happy list.

Very difficult to condense my choices but here goes.

Things that make me
totally, completely, undeniably happy

1. Talking in British accents
I don' t claim to be the best impersonator but I love speaking in my desired accent anytime, anywhere. Especially in the most inappropriate places

2. Surprising people

I love making people feel like a million dollars. Birthdays especially- more than likely I have yours memorized and you don't even know it :)

3. Live music

Which is why I live in the "live music capital of the world". Austin, Texas. love. it. I especially enjoy good covers and discovering new artists.

4. A good eraser
Nothing feels better than erasing pencil (preferably mechanical) with a giant pink eraser. It gets the job done and it feels so good not to have any gross old eraser streaks.

5. New mascara
I cant wait to buy new mascara. The freshness makes my eyelashes go from flop to pop and makes me feel beautiful! ...which of course is a necessity. I think I have 7 different mascara tubes in my possession at the moment. shhhhhhh

6. Hot chocolate while wearing a scarf
I just have an obsession

7. Sundays
Church + Pandora Radio + Anthropologie candles + Cleaning + Cowboys game+ friend updates+ NOT doing any work
= a VERY happy Taylor

8. Musicals
Secretly I pretend that I am in one...everyday

9. Not having to wake up to an alarm.
Simple as that. I also love my bed. It is dreamy.

10. My students
....Without sounding too cliche. My students can drive me nuts but they also make me completely undeniably happy. They are so funny, thoughtful and loving. I don't deserve them one bit but I absolutely adore them and their creative minds. Unexpected hugs are my favorite.

11. Traveling
Can I add one more? Traveling has yet to wear on me. Checking in at the airport makes me happy. Airport crowds make me happy. Walking down the breezeway to the airplane makes me happy. Taking off and landing in the airplane makes me happy. Seeing things I have never seen before makes me happy. Spending money on life long memories, makes me happy.

That was a little tough deciding. Maybe Ill do a weekly post adding to my happy list.

But for now the thing making me MOST happy is that at 3:30 tomorrow my Thanksgiving Break begins. My favorite holiday and first up on the list is back to Dallas for dinner with "la Gentleman" whom I haven't seen in months. Horray!

A Reason to Love

A Reason to Love....
......Canoeing on Town Lake

My FUNNEST friend Jordan and I decided to take her adorable pooch, Tucker, to Barton Springs yesterday. We splashed around with the other dogs and then rented a canoe!

I live in the most beautiful city.

Tuck is such a good boy!

Then we got root beer snow cones!
